Windermere Real Estate/Richard B. Smith has grown from modest beginnings to become one of the most recognized and dynamic real estate firms in Boise and the surrounding valley. In 1863 Franklin B. Smith settled his family on a north end homestead west of today’s Harrison Boulevard and north to the Boise foothills.

The next Smith family generation, Franklin B. Jr. and Barr N., opened the doors to the Smith Realty Company where the brothers began the development of the homestead. The project grew quickly into a major expansion of Boise’s “North End.” In the course of conducting their business, the Smith brothers established a new standard for customer service, one that far surpassed the status quo and one that would become a hallmark for Richard B. Smith.

Richard, son of Franklin B. Jr., carried on the family tradition establishing Richard B. Smith Real Estate upon his return from service in the Army, at the end of World War II. Richard’s interests had always been in the North End. He and his real estate partners spent their careers transforming North Boise from its beginnings as Slaughterhouse Gulch at Sand Creek into the Highlands at Crane Creek (where cranes once flocked), introducing a highly distinctive and desirable neighborhood. The Highlands is an area that enjoys that same popularity today.

After a lifetime in the business, Richard passed the helm to his children, eldest son Geoff and his only daughter Shelley. Geoff has been selling since the time he was only 20 and brokering the office since 1980 – nearly 25 years. Shelley is one of the office’s top producers. Richard’s grandson, Jason, is also an agent and actively involved in the day-to-day management of the firm. And the family extends to the office staff and agents that have made Richard B. Smith what it is today.

In 1997, Richard B. Smith Real Estate, having met the high standards sought by Windermere Real Estate, chose to affiliate with the northwest’s premiere real estate company. The new affiliation with Windermere enabled the office to join one of the fastest growing networks of the most highly regarded real estate offices throughout the west, a marriage of exceptional customer service and the latest in marketing and newest technological sales tools.
